Day 0 & 1 - Fly to Seoul
written on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 @ 11:59 AM ✈
Okay I'm reallyyyy trying my best to recall the first day I went to korea till now so here goes nothing!
Day 0 itinerary
- Singapore >> Ho Chi Minh >> Korea
Day 1 itinerary
- Check in @ WELCOME GUESTHOUSE >> Myeongdong Streets
- Dongdaemun History and Culture Park >> Dongdaemun
27 - 28 April 2014
I actually packed my luggage the very last minute, like one day before flying off and gosh, I'm regretting it so much cause in the end, I realised I forgot to bring a lot of my things especially my charger!! /facepalms/ So guys, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT wait until the last minute to pack your luggage especially if you are a forgetful person like me :/
Met my friends in the airport at around 6.30pm since our flight was at 8.45pm. Took photos before checking in and god knows how excited I felt cause finally...DDAY IS HERE!! Bid farewell to my family members and part of me felt sad cause I'm leaving them but HEY I'm finally going to Korea so let's enjoy while it last!
It was my first time boarding a normal flight (not budget ones) and I was sort of excited to see how cozy the plane is and that dinner was provided too.
And we're off to Ho Chi Minh~
Dinner #1 when we're from Sg > HCM
Dinner #2 from HCM > Korea
Made our infamous butter sugar bread which made both Liling and I laughed our ass off in the plane xD
The food was good though the portion was very little for me xD It took about 2 hours plus to reach Ho Chi Minh and we had to wait for another 3 hours for transit before proceeding to Korea. Discussed our itinerary while waiting to board the next plane because by the time we reach Korea, it'll be around 10am kst.
The 5 hours journey from Ho Chi Minh to Korea was a very stuffy and suffocating one. My nose was like a tap water and my throat, nostrils (HAHAHA), lips, everything was super dry. Can't even sleep peacefully cause it was so uncomfortable :(
Since I sat near the window, I managed to catch a glimpse of the sunrise and the view was extremely breathtaking! Snapped a lot of photos cause how could one simply missed this?!
Hours passed....the plane was getting ready for it's touch down at Incheon Airport. This is the moment that I've been waiting for! When it finally landed, I could feel goosebumps all over me cause I AM REALLY IN KOREA!!!! However, when we heard from the captain about the temperature in Seoul, we were rather shocked.......cause it was raining and cold and we didn't bring enough thick clothes, especially me! D:
As soon as we were in Incheon Airport, I was so happy I couldn't stop smiling!!!! You know that feeling when you've been waiting for something for so long and it finally happened, words are not enough to express it! At the arrival hall, I was anticipating for some fans to be outside cause who knows some idol might be at the arrival hall as us but oh well.... I mean, this IS the arrival hall that tons of idols been coming out from when they come back to Korea rightttt. Hehe.
We're supposed to check in our guest house at 2pm but we were still early so we "explored" the airport and took some pictures and videos ;)
Humiliate myself here cause I wanted to take a jump shot but it failed many times lol
Board AREX which is the train at airport to Myeongdong (the location of our guesthouse) and it was a very longggggggggg journey. And as usual, I was excited just by sitting in the subway xD
After surviving the long journey, we had to change train to get to Myeongdong. Was in a culture shock for a while cause
1) There weren't many escalators and lifts, causing us to carry our heavy luggage up and down the stairs :'( Luckily for me, my luggage wasn't that heavy compared to my friends.
2) No one helped us (though I didn't expect anything) and everyone were rushing here and there which makes me realized that Koreans are always rushing off to either work or school.
3) They won't apologize after they bumped into each other and vise versa. I was rather shocked when a few Koreans bumped into me, hard enough that my shoulders ache but they still didn't apologize. If this thing were to happen in Singapore and no one apologize, all hell will break loose! At the same time, if you bumped into them, you don't have to apologize too cause they don't care. Hahaha. I had to adjust to this though.
4) You can freaking eat in the subway!!! Unlike Singapore, you're not allow to have even a sip of water or sweet. However, despite being able to eat in the subway, they did not abuse the privilege and even though they still eat in the train, they didn't mess up the place. So I tried drinking in the subway and wow, I never felt so good xD
5) The train moved so fast the handles kept on swaying from one side to another O_o That is one hardcore driving Ahjussi!!
6) THERE ARE COUPLES E V E R Y W H E R E IN SEOUL!!!! There's too many of them, on your left, on your right, front and back that I had to make a song/rhyme for them.... Wanna listen?! hehe. " Couples couples everywhere, over here and over there" LOL. Tbvh, I felt so.....forever alone hahaha
Finally after a few hours of travelling, we arrived at Myeongdong!! And since I'm a kpop fan, I can't help but to get excited whenever I saw the birthday ads in the subway! :D They are everywhere!! ^^
Had trouble finding our way to the guesthouse, going up and down the hill so we decide that I should look out for our luggages while Gina and Liling search for the guesthouse. It was super cold there that my one piece long sleeve shirt isn't enough to keep me warm :'(
This was where I waited for them...alone with 3 luggage surrounding me xD
Walked up the hill (again) and tadahhh! WELCOME GUESTHOUSE :)
Decided to take a short nap after the long journey from Singapore to Korea but in the end, we didn't nap since we're all too excited xD It was already 3pm plus by then so we're off to......
MYEONGDONG STREET!!~
DO YOU HEAR ME SCREAMING!!!!!
We didn't had any food after our 2nd meal in the flight so we went to find Jungmu Kimbab, which sells spicy squid and rice rolled with seaweed. Finding food in Korea was a bit difficult for me, cause I'm a Muslim and have to eat HALAL food but through all the endless researches and reading blogs from Muslim travelers, I managed to find a few places that despite not being HALAL, still can be eaten as there's no pork nor meat.
After filling our stomach, it's time for some getting-to-know-the-area-more and window shopping!!
Craved for some bubble tea so we went to Bubble Pong and I bought Taro Milk tea! :9 If I'm not wrong, mine cost about 2,800won, around S$4 which is quite pricey for a bubble tea :X But oh well, it can't be found in Singapore so why not :)
Left MD to go to the next destination which is DONGDAEMUN HISTORY AND CULTURE PARK!!~
It was more on window shopping cause we don't wanna shop straight away on the first day xD It was kindda hard to resist but I'm glad I didn't spend......YET! :P Went to the malls which name I had forgotten and hola.....it was full of nothing but CLOTHES!! *_*
In the end, I actually spend 30,000 won on 2 beanies and 1 cap BUT! it was a good deal so all is well heh.
Thank goodness for the umbrella cause it rained cats and dogs and the wind is SUPER STRONG our umbrella got spoil because of it xDD Initially, we planned to the night market at Dongdaemun to shop for our animal pjs but since it rained, we didn't see any yellow tents so it was postponed to another day :'( Sigh. Instead, we went to this beautiful building, idk if it's a mall or a museum, but yeah, beautiful building and decided to take a break while enjoy the scenery :')
It was late by then, hence, we make a move back to our guesthouse. Before that, we went to buy more Banana and taro milk!! MY FAV :9 Our guesthouse was within a walking distance to the Namsan tower so you'll be able to see the tower from far and it is indeed breath taking :')
MY BANANA UYU!!!
One of the alley that leads to our guesthouse :)
Some cute couple painting on the wall lol
Day 1 passed by so fast with a blink of an eye! We were all shagged by then so lights off after midnight. (We're all late sleepers tbvh heh)
So...that concludes our Day 1 which is more on getting-to-know-our-area! I'll continue to edit the post whenever my friends send me more pictures cause my phone decides to be a bij in Korea. Haha. GOODNIGHT!!
